Master of Science in International Affairs
Format: Campus
The Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs at The New School in New York City are designed to prepare engaged, reflective global citizens who contribute to making the world more inclusive, just, and sustainable. The world’s most pressing challenges — from the rise of authoritarian regimes and refugee crises to youth unemployment and climate change — demand the deep understanding of complex global systems, field-based experience, and commitment to social justice that our programs provide.
As an International Affairs master's student at The New School, you have the opportunity to:
-- Develop original and critical approaches to global problems, challenging conventional frameworks and offering alternative theories.
-- Integrate theory, policy, and practice through field-based learning in practicum projects, UN Summer Study, and our one-of-a-kind International Field Program.
-- Collaborate with students and faculty from many countries and backgrounds, creating a classroom community of diverse and global perspectives.
The New School offers two master's degrees in international affairs: a 42-credit Master of Arts and a 30-credit Master of Science.
-- The Master of Arts in International Affairs, a 42-credit degree with a structured core curriculum and five concentrations that allow students to specialize in cities and social justice, conflict and security, development, governance and rights, or media and culture.
-- The Master of Science in International Affairs, a 30-credit degree for experienced professionals (min. 2 years work experience) offering unique combinations of thematic knowledge and practical tools through our innovative modular format.
No matter where they go on to work, our alumni combine critical thinking skills with a commitment to global solidarity to find creative solutions to global challenges. Our students have gone on to work in public service, nonprofit institutions, businesses, and academia on issues related to urban development, human rights, environmental policy, migration and refugees, security, gender equality, and more.
