Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and a Post-Graduate Certificate are offered in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialty track. In our Community-based program, you will complete your studies either full-time or part-time with your home community serving as your classroom. You’ll also complete a clinical practicum in your community, where you’ll work closely with clinical preceptors. FNU has agreements with preceptor sites across the country and continually adds sites.
The PMHNP specialty track educates students for advanced practice to improve mental health care and overall health status of communities with a focus on individuals across the lifespan and populations in rural and underserved areas. The PMHNP program will prepare you to provide high-quality mental health care incorporating integrative care and telehealth technology.
When you receive the Master of Science in Nursing degree, you may choose to either continue into the DNP program via an admissions process or end your studies with the MSN. For advanced practice nurses already certified as a nurse-midwife or nurse practitioner who wish to add certification as a PMHNP, our Post-Graduate Certificate program may be a good fit.
Students will sit for the certification examination to become a PMHNP after the MSN degree or Post-Graduate Certificate is conferred. Students are strongly encouraged to continue on to complete the DNP for 21 additional credit hours.
FNU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award master’s degrees and doctoral degrees. FNU is licensed by the Kentucky Council of Postsecondary Education to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and both certificates and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) for nurse-midwifery, family nurse practitioner, women's health care nurse practitioner and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner specialties. The nurse-midwifery Post-Graduate Certificate program and master's program are fully accredited by the ACNM Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME). The Doctor of Nursing Practice, the Master of Science in Nursing program and the Post-Graduate Certificate, including the nurse-midwifery, family nurse practitioner, women's health care nurse practitioner and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner tracks are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
