Program Information

Degrees Offered:

Master of Science in Nursing

Format: Online

Program Description:

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and a Post-Graduate Certificate are offered in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialty track.  In our Community-based program, you will complete your studies either full-time or part-time with your home community serving as your classroom. You’ll also complete a clinical practicum in your community, where you’ll work closely with clinical preceptors. FNU has agreements with preceptor sites across the country and continually adds sites.

The PMHNP specialty track educates students for advanced practice to improve mental health care and overall health status of communities with a focus on individuals across the lifespan and populations in rural and underserved areas.  The PMHNP program will prepare you to provide high-quality mental health care incorporating integrative care and telehealth technology.
When you receive the Master of Science in Nursing degree, you may choose to either continue into the DNP program via an admissions process or end your studies with the MSN. For advanced practice nurses already certified as a nurse-midwife or nurse practitioner who wish to add certification as a PMHNP, our Post-Graduate Certificate program may be a good fit.

Students will sit for the certification examination to become a PMHNP after the MSN degree or Post-Graduate Certificate is conferred. Students are strongly encouraged to continue on to complete the DNP for 21 additional credit hours.
